1) What to do when you have the full works of algae (ie: BBA, BGA, Spot algae, Hair algae etc)

I would recommend the following actions:

1) Remove as much algae as possible mechanically. Snip away leaves that are badly affected by algae such as BBA. Suck away as much BGA as possible. Clean your glass tank to remove spot algae.

2) Do a large water change of about 70%.

3) Wash all filters thoroughly.

4) If snipping of leaves is excessive such that your tank has not enough plants, get new plants and plant densely. Can try having floating plants too.

5) Stop CO2 injection and aerate the tank with an air pump.

6) Cover your tank with newspaper / trash bag / blanket and do a complete blackout for 3 days.

7) After 3 days, see if your BGA is dead. If not, blackout for another day or two. Usually, they'll die off by the 3rd day.

8) Do another large water change of about 50-70%. Remove dead algae if you see any.

9) Inject your CO2. Monitor closely and make sure that it is within 20-30ppm.

10) After your CO2 concentration has been maintained, dose back your nutrients accordingly after weekly 50% water change:

NO3 - 5-10ppm
K - 20ppm
PO4 - 0.5-1ppm
10ml of traces

You can use chuck's calculator to find out how much (ie: teaspoon) you should dose. Monitor your tank for about 2 to 3 weeks to see the effects.

1) What are the recommended concentrations/portions of CO2, lighting, Nitrates (NO3), Phosphates (PO4), Potassium (K) elements?

Lighting requirements - We use a general rule of 3 watts/US gallon (Variations are possible).

CO2 - 20-30 ppm
NO3 - 5-10ppm
K - 20ppm
PO4 - 0.5-1ppm
