I'm using the Hang On Back Type Bio Filter. Most impt is u have enough live rocks and a sandbed for Benificial Bactiria

Avoid UGFs and internal filters.

UGFs will produce unaaceptable high levels of nitrates over time and internal filters can add on to the heat.

What kind of setup do you want? Reef or fowlr or fish only? This can be 1 of the factors in helping us recommend a filter.

Well, i suppose you've read deep_end's article and have done some reading up on your own about what you want to keep etc.

Get a canister filter or a hang on filter then depending on the budget.

Just to share that for a 2FT its recommended to put 8-10KG of LR

Yup, 8-10kg will be ok but you can always have more LR if you choose to as LR aids in filtration.

Look in my gallery, thats around 8kg of LR in my 2x1x1 tank.

Canister, i don't think theres any that is built to suit a 2ft tank. I think the smallest i've seen also for 2.5ft-3ft tanks. The cost is around $70-$100 for a small one depending on what brand is purchased.

Hang-on filters, there are models made for smaller tanks like 2ft. Definitely will cost less than a canister filter. Should be able to get one at $50 or less.

A hang-on filter should be good enough if you are going to use LR to aid in filtration.

I don't think its so much the place but the brand. What you pay is often what you get.

Both liverocks and sandbed go into the maintank, but if you've got a refugium, you can have a sandbed in there as well as a little bit of liverocks.

Sounds like your new to marine fishkeeping, suggest that you go to the sticky thread in the marine general forums if your interested in keeping a marine tank, it gives you quite alot of information especially with the website URLs to supplement deep_end's article.
