it's a system that runs without a skimmer. It is some sort of "mud" and placed in the sump(like a refugirum), with plants growin on it. Oh ya, and some bioballs(sump) and live rock(in main tank).

What can this "mud" do to our tank system? Any pros & cons?
Interesting... But is there a life span for it? Cant be possible all the dirt gets in there without any equipments to remove it.

MM is said 2 hav been formulated with all the neccesary trace elements n minerals.it oso contains anaerobic microorganisms that denitrify the aquarium.
it has 2 go along wif bioballs n macro algae.

So which 1 is better to have, Miracle Mud or Argonite sand? Do they have the same function?

miracle mud is nothing but a type nutrients rich bed for growing macroalgae. It does nothing to improve the water perimeters, all it does is to make yr macroalgae grows better. The macroalgae are doing all the work ;)

macroalgae will absorb nitrate, ammonia/ammonium, phosphate, iron ..etc. That will lower the nutrients level so that yr main tank will have less algae growth.

protein skimmers removes dissolved organic compounds(DOC). DOC will broken down by bacteria/critters to give you the basic nutrients nitrates/phosphates ..etc
Using protein skimmers is removing the nutrients before its broken down, while macroalgae removes nutrients when its already broken down.
