Skimmer stop skimming

I found out why my skimmer stop skimming.Once i put in food for my fish (mysis shrimp with 5ml of seachem garlic guard) my green cateye will close all it bubble and my skimmer stop skimming.Why dose this happen can any bro help explain? :(

is the pump 4 the skimmer hiding at 1 corner behind the LRs??

fr the pic the bubble count is too little.

n the skimmate is too watery.

suggest u check the venturi 1st n c if there's any debris in it.

I check liao , last nite was doing well and today too untill just now.Just did a water test using salifert test kit,
NO3 30ppm
PO4 0ppm
KH 9
PH 8.1
cal 440ppm

It only state max 2000L/h so i use 1300L/h pump.

Now the skimmer look like it going to form again and when ever my skimmer stop skimming my eheim surface skimmer will have alots of bubbles in it. :( Really drive me crazy :( Gona buy a aqua-medic from US and give up on all this china skimmer, US selling aqua-medic turbo flotor at $239US dollar) :(

the skimmer stops skimming might be your food have oil..like if u feed cyclopeeze some reefers experince non-skimming for awhile..
but bubbles close up.. this is very weird need to check on it.. try not to soak on garlic and try feeding see if it closes anot.

It is a turbo flotor multi SL , very cheap hor will try to ask if i want the skimmer only don want the pump cos the pumpn cannot use in singapore.I am using SICCE idra . ;)

eh... u buy this skimmer for the pump leh... its a needlewheel pump.. the skimmer will be useless if u use other pumps except pumps like aquabee needlewheel...

aQUA-MART is no more the only dealer for aqua-medic products, i get to know the dealer can get a better price but it still cheaper to buy from the state. ;)

In that case... get one that comes with the pump.. this model normally comes with the pump.. if u get from US.. sure cheaper

oh yah ah... since u got contact for aqua-medic stuff.. ask that shop how much they selling their OR2500 needlewheel lor.. dun buy the normal OR2500.. those are without needlewheel

Q. Why won't my skimmer generate foam?

A. There are a number of possibilities to explain why a skimmer won't foam. Many of them are related to the theory of how a skimmer works and what affects its efficiency:

If your tank has just been set up, there is a strong possibility that there is not enough organic matter present to cause the skimmer to foam.


The air bubbles are too large. Air bubbles must be less than 0.5 millimeter in diameter for the skimmer to work properly. Replace the airstones or blocks.


You just performed a water change large enough to remove a significant portion of dissolved organics.


Your skimmer is not large enough and/or the contact time of the water with the air bubbles is insufficient. If the contact time is too short, there will not be enough time for air bubbles to collect sufficient organic molecules to cause foaming. Insufficient contact time is generally the result of a combination of skimmer column length and flow rate. If the flow rate cannot be reduced for the size tank the skimmer is running on, the column length will have to be increased.


Your skimmer is located after another filter in which chemical filtration is removing the majority of the organic wastes before the water reaches the skimmer.


If you are using ozone, you are either adding too much or not enough. You'll probably have to adjust the ozone output to get the skimmer to foam.


Fats or oils have been introduced either from foods or from your skin. Every time you put your hands in the tank you are introducing oils into the water. These oils lower the surface tension of the water, which inhibits foaming.

Aquamart do not sell needlewheel pump only. U might want to use a transformer if u getting from US. But it will be Aquabee pump which doesn't perform as good as compared to OR2500.

Like what Ekia mention, u pay slightly more as compared to US for the warranty. If unlucky get a unit with faulty impeller, u will not be able to get the spare parts in Singapore. Only OR2500 needlewheel impeller avaliable here & europe. Aquabee has been phrase out except for models selling in US.

Dare not try now it working fine only during feeding stop for about 30min than after that ok liao and not the foam getting dryer and darker. :confused:
