It depends on the snail specie but quite alot of species(like astrea snail, turbo snail) should consume filamentous algae(like green microalgae etc.). The only snail that i remember would consume hair algae is the turbo snail.
I have some nassarious snails in my tank but they don't seem active in consuming any type of algae.

Turbo and astreas are great removers of algae. Nassarius is a scavenger instead of an algae eater.

Yes it's very hard to differentiate between turbo and funnel, but i think both of them does the same job.

This site is good:

There're pictures and writeups.
Astreas are common? I only know 1 place that sells them, at each around $3.00. I thought that the Banded Trochus Snail (Trochus sp.) are the most common ones around? Irwana has tonnes of them, each $1.00, and the aunty actually calls them "turbo snails".
