hi Betta experts!

i'm quite curious whether providing aeration for labyrinth fishes essential? what are the pro and cons?

is it really neccessary to let bettas fight to get good colors?

TIA!

no need air pumps
no need fights, just let them flare at each other in seperate containers for a short period of time daily.

you only areate the baby bettas before they can break surface for air

well thats what you read from the net. but its not necessary. keeping water clean is enough.

exactly, it depends on the style of different people.

Bettas can breathe oxygen directly from air like us, so they dont need dissolved oxygen in the water. They just need to go to the water surface and breathe. Their special lung system resembles a Labyrinth, thats why they are also called a Labyrinth fish. Gouramis are also Labyrinth fish.

in fact,
i dont think they like the movement but prefers more stagnant type of water. To strong current not good for them.

In my experience I've only used aeration when I needed to use a heater to maintain the correct temperature. But where most of the arofanatic members are from you probably don't worry about temps getting too cold. The only reason I use airstones is to circulate the water so that all the water is the same temp so the fish won't get shocked when they swim through the tank. But I'm guessing that most people don't use tanks for their fish and preffer jars/bottles. Anyways That's just my opinion.

i think ppl frmo US has to do this cos the weather is different. the weather in singapore is constant and our betta are usually housed in much smaller tanks.
