I just got a tank complete with a filter (Five Plan's E-Filter) and the trouble is it's not WORKING.

I filled the filter case completely with water, turn on the plug and hear the motor go on and on but the water level in the pipes just remain the same. I see lots of bubbles in the filter case though and wonder if it's because the motor isn't air-tight/proof.

Any ideas?

Hm...I didn't wait long though. Dunno if that's the problem. It says here on the manual to wait twenty seconds. T.T

Hmmm...maybe I'll turn it on and leave it on. Hopefully it won't be too noisy. :(

UPDATE: It's noisy leh. >.<

if urs is the same as mine, cos mine also need to fill up the filter before i on it. starting very noise until the water start to flow then the noise lvl will decrease. but i waited more then 20 sec.

for me i usually fill the water inside the filter to full until water start to flow out. then just wait until the water is been suck out. but all depends on the water lvl of ur tank. cos the higher the lvl, more water will be in the tude, then will suck faster. but if less water, maybe will take a longer time.

well, i don think all filters is like this. just some. but everything need time to let the think run. but think if u fill the water lvl to the lvl of the water flowing out, maybe will be faster.

The filter is filled with water (till it's overflowing) but the water level in the tube isn't rising. Kinda strange no?

Hmm...it's for my turtle - about one cm higher than the pump. I think I should add more water.

cos i also not sure on the filter also. but i think maybe it is spoil(the motor not strong). can try go back to where u buy it and ask. or just let it on and go do ur work. maybe it will work later on. haha. maybe the filter having mood swing.:D

I'm going to leave it running for the entire morning...if it still doesn't work, me going to call the damn pet store.

[UPDATE: Can't stand the sound and water level isn't moving, so I turned it off. Will call the pet store later.]

Eleraine, Are you using OHF(overhead filter)? They need a certain depth for it to work. Too little water will not work. Cheers

after the thing is running you can try slowly decreasing the water level and find the minimum height or water that it requires to run since it's for your turtle yep

Glad that your filter works. Is it still as noisy or is it quiet liao? Sometimes the noise comes from it trying to suck water in but because the amount that enters is too little, air gets sucked in as well, hence the noise.

It's alright now - just wondering how often I'll need to change water and/or the filter. :)

depends on how dirty ur water is...

If your filter is sponge based, you may consider cultivating bacteria on them to help to break down the waste.

Hm...me needs to think about it. :P Right now turtle is busy entertaining himself with new plants (read: toys) and bubbles from the filter.
