Bro, honestly, price means quality, in your budget range, you can have some choice, but the pic quality will be just ok. The first important spec is the macro shot distance (close-up shot), the shorter the better. Min resolution should be higher than 2 M pixels. Those famous brands are more reliable (such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus,...)
Here's a link that you can set the criteria to search their data base:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp
After the result come out, you need to check above most important issues.
Here's another link (TW cnet) for your reference:
http://taiwan.cnet.com/hardware/digitalcameras/listing?c_id=10010108&VALUE_1_0=&ATTRIB_0=10000090&VALUE_1_1=%A5%FE%B3%A1&ATTRIB_1=10000093&VALUE_1_2=%A4%A3%AD%AD&ATTRIB_2=10000101&VALUE_1_3=%A4%A3%AD%AD&ATTRIB_3=10000102&VALUE_1_4=1%B8U%A4%B8%A5H%A4U&ATTRIB_4=20000061&SEARCH_NUM=5

My personal opinion, if increase the budget to SD600, maybe you can have better choice. Good Luck.

i recommend canon A200

good, but unless you own a battery factory, its only then you can truly enjoy the camera's greatness.

It depends on the purpose and the quality you want. So, what do you mean about personal photography?

Basic use, for taking own pictures... mite need to email ppl the pics too so need one wif clear image even when i do enlargements... but of coz i noe pics will be distorted slightly.

n of coz, ease of use so i dun like the hassle of too many functions...

Try Nikon 775 ,It wit 3x Optical Zoom, good for close up and good picture quality. Canon A200 is without optical Zoom.

Ok, then besides those keys listed in former reply, you'll need optical zooming for stuffs other than fish. Also, go for the compact ones cause their operation would be more simple. One more thing, get the resolution higher than 2M pixels so that the pics or the photos won't show pixels when enlarged.

to take close up pictures less than 30cm you need to switch to close-up mode (a flower sign on the camera)... if you don't your camera have problem focusing. You can also use manual focusing if your camera have this mode.
