Barbels!!!

Hi all. I have a red thats about 13". One barbel fell off and the other one was curled up when i got him.
I cut both COMPLETELY off to the base. Now they are growing back curled again!!

What can I do??

Does keeping the lights off help??

i'm pretty sure the lights have nothing to do with the barbels:D
as for corrective procedures, they're probably invasive n carry a 50/50 sort of chance.....no drugs or medication will fix this, we probably need surgery.

i'm no expert cosmetic surgeon, n i don't think anyone has tried such surgery on a fish, but perhaps Kenny will have an idea of how u can go about this....

perhaps u can take a wedge off the inner aspect, n suture it together? the resulting scar will pull the tissues tighter n correct it further??
or u could zap it with some liquid nitrogen at the medial aspect?

any thoughts guys?
