The symtoms apeared when the aro tend/usually moves one way in your tank. From left to right circling the tank or reversely. The cause of "one way movement" is first the drop eye. Please notice usualy one eye usually more dropsy than another. If the balance sight of the eye improper, then the aro is more tendency to make "ordinary path" thus dropsy eye become more severe...

The eye of arowana is unique, it can see things outside waters as clear as inside. Its something can "turn" the bias of lights to nomal light. The aro can jump out from the water's surface 1 m and point the insects precisely.

The point is when the aro put in a tank, specially in a small and bare tank. It will somehow make him swim in "mostly" one way. Then drop eye (one eye is worst / two eyes drop better than one eye drop). And finally when the fish depressed it will bite its own tail.

Some advise we're often told "
1)Light off, its actually to make his eyes "not see the unequal/imbalance " become less unequal/balance, at least from his seeing, then "forgot" the "usual path"
2) move to bigger tank or earthen pond, is actually to make him to be more free and forgot the "usual path" The problem in the tank is the side cover of tank (mostly 1 side) will make his eyes see things unequal/imbalance. In the earthen pond, all 4 sides cover by earthen soil walls and make his eyes perfectly balanced.
3)Companions is actually to attract his eyes from seeing things to make "one way moving" in the tank.
4) Planted tank is to avoid him to make one way moving.

So,,,

Either moving in one way or dropped eye correlated each other, the worst is causing tail biting. I DID NOT SAY THAT THE DROP EYE WILL CAUSE TAIL BITING BUT IT WILL EASILY BECOME TAIL DROP WHEN THE DROP EYES ARE NOT EQUAL/BALANCE.

to cure the aro, just follow the above 4 directions other wise....

DROP EYE SURGERY!

Hope will be helpfull
