Generally, I would suggest no more than 2.5ft in height.
For a 4ft tank, my preference would be 2ft.

Wats the reason behind for not having tank with too high height? Izzit scare the lighting not strong enough to kana the bottom if I'm keeping some coral?

Lighting is one consideration. Deep tanks(>2ft) would typically require metal hallides to penetrate the depth, otherwise you would be restricted to keeping corals(those that need light) only in the upper levels of the tank if you stick to PLs or T5s. You may still get away with those that don't demand as much light like mushroom corals at the bottom using PLs or T5s.
Another consideration would be the water pressure on the glass. Saltwater places more pressure on the glass than freshwater. A deep tank would require thicker glass, this would also push your costs up.
Another consideration would actually be the convenience in doing any work in the tank. A deeper tank would make it harder to reach in to do work like shifting rocks or cleaning the tank walls than a shallower one.
For me, between depth and width, my choice is a wider tank. Fish would also prefer a longer and wider tank than a deeper one in general for the swimming space.

as what others recommended, 2' height is easier to work with, but I've seen before wall tank 6' length and 5' tall/height (bout human height)... very impressive, wonder how they resolve maintenance issues?.... there r no liverocks, just man-made rock-like walls and sand..
