Bros,

My wife just bought me a Bubble Magus NAC6A protein skimmer thru a friend recommendation. Is this a high end skimmer?

I'm curious whether this skimmer is as good as those Deltec skimmers.. :p

Had anybody used this skimmer before and then switched to Deltec for any reason? Pls share ur experiences? It might shed some light on me.. :)

Bro at present i have 2 Deltec AP-701, main feature for me is the build quality and the Eheim Pinwheel pump. Have tried some other models, and the pumps were

The advantage would be that it would not be possible to utilise 1 skimmer for my two tanks.

Ya bro .. most forums recommend deltec skimmers if can afford one.

I'm still confused abt high end skimmers which I came across in a few forums.
Does it hv better skimming or its just people's perception that they are categories as "high end" for any reason.

Sorry bros.. I'm still new to skimmers.. currently I'm using a nano skimmer for my 2 feet tank. Will be upgrading to 422 soon.. :)

Bubble Magus NAC6A can consider "high end" for your 2 feet tank

as for 422, i will go for deltec SC2060/TC1655 or a 2nd hand ap701/ap851

happy reefing

I believe there's no such thing as a high end skimmer rite bro..

Its just a matter of choice and preference.. ;)

skimmer should work well as long as it is setup & tune correctly

for 100l in water volume(including sump etc), you should get skimmer rated for:

200l for minimum performance
400l for good performance, normal stocking
600l for good performance, heavy stocking
800l for "high end" performance

but if you compare apple to apple, based on my experience
reef octopus vs deltec, both skimmer rated for 1000l
deltec skimmer performance definately win

my 2 cents

cheers

Bro, as for China skimmer, you are getting a very well paid skimmer with good performance. However, the problem is that your pump is using a brush wheel instead of needle wheel which worn out very easily. Performance will drop after sometime. If possible, change to a BM-150. I am using it and it gives a very good skimming and very happy with its' performance.

Perhaps you might want to try to get a second hand high-end skimmer, definitely cheaper than original price.

Your bubble magnus skimmer has the pump built inside the cylinder, it might be a little hard to change the pump and getting one that fits inside. While more others utilise a pump on the outside, thus changing of pumps are a lot more easier.

I dun think you can change the pump because the NAC series is using an Atman pump where the BM series is using Aquabee. I doubt it will fix into the desiged holes/outlet and inlet. Anyway try to get spare wire mesh and by changing new wire mesh the performance will be ok.

Bro at the end of the day if you want quality you need to pay the extra $, Aquabee and Eheim are top quality pumps, if you have been involved in marine for some time you will know the Atman range is of low cost and also of low quality.

No doubt for both Germany made product, I have no comment about it. I might not be in marine long enough but I trust I have enough experiences to help those in need. Atman might be a lower end pump but with proper modification and good design. It can do the work of most average branded skimmer.

Please go and found out more about NAC before you doubt it capability. Just for your thought, why no other branded pumps is designed to run on mesh except some china/taiwan made can do. In addition, China is going to launch a new pump that look and has the same output as red dragon. Does it mean it is a lower end pump?Sometime the quality you are getting doesn't justify the price you are paying. If u ever use a red dragon pump u will know why.
