Hello all....ive got a problem with my guppies...im new to this hobby. Abt 2 days ago i bought 10 guppies from Qian hu fish farm..the one at sungei tengah. Right now ive got 3 left.
Initially ive put them in a plastic tank that costs $3.50 size with water straight from the tap. 4 died the next. which is yesterday.
Late at night i changed the water...and added in Aquaplus a few drops. Today...friday...more died. the last victim just died just now. they just turn over and sink to the bottom. and slowly dies...
Hope someone can help me out here......issit the tanks in Qian hu for guppies are brackish waters? Fish stressed? Btw at all times there was aeration from the air pump...hope some help comes soon..Cant bear to see fish dying one by one...its not the $$ thats secondary.. But to see a fish die....i'll kill a fish to eat...but not GUPPIES!!! coz i dont eat them....*sighs*

You might need to read more information here as there are experts that can help guide you thru from here..
When buying new fish, they will pack in plastic bag filled with air. Once you reached home, you should not immediately place them in. Rather, just place the whole bag into the tank of water for about 1 hour so that they are familar with your room temperature. Also when you filled with tap water, it should not be used immediately.. One did mentioned that an over nite water is the best.
Nevertheless, after 1 hour, you can unleash your rubberbends and place the guppies in. For the next three days, if the water did not turns clowdy of any sort, then your guppies are healthy. Be prepared to get another tank as you might be thinking to raise more guppies. Why you may ask, well you need another tank for quarantine before placing them in to the old tank. This would prevent casualty along the way.. I have been to that situation that nearly all my old guppies dieded with the new ones..
Next if you want to further develops new breed.. I would suggest lay some pebbles and plants to the tank. This helps you to buy females and breed new fries or breeds... hee hee..
I never believes filters.. so all my tank relies only bubbles and only use a filter twice monthly to clean the waste.
Hope this helps..

Your guppies were killed by chlorine in the tap water.

HI
3.50 tank is quite small, over crowding also kills, let the bag sit for 15 min b4 release into tank, this is to balance out the temp, add some of the old water in too - about half, this to to reduce water condition shock.
add anti-chlorine always!!! adding later is too late as they already suffer shock from the change.
gdluck!!!

Guys, it's not enough to add anti-chlorine. Chlorine is too unstable to be used exclusively to treat water so Chloramine is also used. Get something that can nullify chlorine AND chloramine. But beware, not all products that claim they deal with chloramine works like it says, they deal with it but also leave behind alot of nitrates which makes up a part of chloramine. Get reputable brands like Genesis. Also, rem that SG is now introducing NEwater into our water supply. That's a killer~:D
Age water.
Treat with anti chlorine +Chloramine.
Know the salinity level and ph of ur fish.
First thing first do you know that your guppies are in a salt water environment, by adding just tap water, the chlorine will not kill it instantly but rather the very SUdden dip in salinity level that kill the fis, next come the water changing part, do you know that it is not advisable to change water qithin 24 hours upon the fish arrival to your home cause the fish is still unstable hence stress also kill the fish, last thing come to chlorine, as we all know that the chlorine level is very high in Singapore hence it is always advisable to contain water in a container, treat it with anti chlorine before adding into the tank

So those guppies at Qian Hu are kept in brackish waters??
I'll try to remember all the tips given on adding new fish to the tank...:) and to use anti-chlorine before and not after:D
Currently theres just 2 guppies left....painful lesson......ouch...

I dun believe they r kept in brackish water in QH. Guppy nowaday r much weaker than lastime because of too much inter breeding. :)
