How is the catfish doing with the things in its mouth? The nodules getting any larger? I honestly have no idea what they are. Perhaps some bacterial infection from wounds sustained during feeding?

ThomasLim 14-02-2016 09:18 AM

Thanks bro DragonFireSG, happy new year to u!

I havent had a chance to view it lately as it didn't really stay at the front. I will update once I am able to see its condition.

Btw anyone knows where to get bulk qty of epsom salt?
Cheers!

DragonFireSG 14-02-2016 01:59 PM

Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate heptahydrate

Food grade can get in Guardian Pharmacy. 250g baggies I think.

Using it to adjust GH? I think it is recommended to use equal parts epsom with equal parts calcium chloride flake.

Calcium chloride flake I am still trying to find.

ThomasLim 14-02-2016 03:49 PM

Haha... No la bro, is not to adjust GH, but to treat my sumo xb as I notice it has SBD recently. I had partitioned it as it had been seriously harassed by the 2 alpha which are so much smaller in size. I would like to add epsom salt to the pond of around 4tons of water. Any suggestion or advise?

DragonFireSG 15-02-2016 04:19 AM

Heh I am not an aro expert. Leave it to other more experienced folk to comment on that.

Had been troubled by midges problem for some time... With the help of bro DragonFireSG, I manged to find the following... As there is not much info about this med being used in the fgt, I have to take risk. When I was at the Nursery, I was assured by them that this med could be used in pond though. I choose the more expensive "dunks" rather than the cheaper ones (for no reason :o )
http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...sz8e27li9.jpeg

Yesterday morning, I broke one of the 'donut' into 4 pieces and dropped each quarter into my 4 chambers separately. There is no abnormal of the fish that I could discover... This morning as usual I feed the fish and everything is as per normal. My rays and fish are still active... Even the 2 feeder goldfish in my first chamber are fine... Notice the midges are still there this morning but not as many... As usual, I go for a round of massive killings. I hate midges!!! Hopefully I will not see any more midges after all the adult midges died... I pray that this med works, please... :)

ThomasLim 16-04-2016 06:06 PM

Some info about this dunks that I had found on the manufacturer website as below. It states is safe and non-toxic to fish :) and even if animal eats it, it will not adversely affect the animal. It essentially gets a large dose of protein and calcium  sure bo???

This morning check that there are still midges, but getting lesser :) Have to cover the filters as today the contractor is coming to build shelter for my fish :) Yes, finally approved by our MO :D mai tu liao, fast hand fast leg got contractor to do liao :D

Here are the areas to be covered.

http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...snvqdqbhq.jpeg

Saw the brown parasol at my neighbour unit? Yes, I gave my parasol to them as their blue umbrella was spoilt. Without the parasol and everything moved aside, this space looks good.
http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...sm1yjnibl.jpeg

The contractor came, done some protection and work started. They had headache with my unit as they need to take care of my fgt and my 'grass' during the work. Not easy :D

For this portion of shelter above my fgt, they decided to build at factory and come here just to install... Even that, it is not as easy.

http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...s9wix6ssc.jpeg

It probably will take another week or two to complete the whole shelter... Finally there are some protection for my fish and my family. Cheers.

Aro77 18-04-2016 06:05 PM

bro , thats solid water for outdoor FGT and every time i see your FGT i drooling :D

sirwin81 19-04-2016 09:58 AM

nice. do you cover your air pump like that all time?
if yes you might want consider covering it a different way. based on my experience covering it like that will cause the pump to overheat and lead to damage to the rubber or diaphram. had a pump spoiled due to overheat ( kept in enclosed space) 2x. after moving the pump out to open air the pump have been rock solid.

majinn 21-04-2016 07:41 PM

Wow! thanks for sharing such an amazing build. took me a while to go through from 1st page. do keep us posted with more updates. :):)

Bro, yes it is cover in this way as I have no other way to protect it. However after the shelter is built, I will shift it to the other side (which is under shelter) and I can dispose the cover then... :)

Bro Majinn, glad to know that you enjoy reading... Happy fish keeping.

The shelter is going to be ready this week. Hopefully they can install the glass tomorrow or latest by Friday :)
I DIY a polycarbonate panels to act as a fence. With that, I can remove all my current netting. I am so excited to see my DIY project works :) Will post pic some pics tomorrow... :D:D:D

DragonFireSG 27-04-2016 03:02 PM

What air pump is that? I leave my HiBlow 80 out in the open. My original HiBlow 40 ran for over 5 years on my old pond under similar circumstances.

ThomasLim 27-04-2016 06:26 PM

Huh... Hiblow is water resistant? I am using Hiblow 60 (or 80? I cannot remember exactly :o) Dont know who told me it is indoor pump, cannot put outdoor :(

ThomasLim 27-04-2016 06:46 PM

The glass are here. By tomorrow the shelter should be ok :)

http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...sir7yjkfv.jpeg

My DIY panel to block the fish from jumping out. I design in such a way that the front can be opened if I want to go into the pond to do 'area cleaning' and the side at the staitcase can also be opened if I want to maintain my filter system. The best part is if I dont like the panels, I just detach them and put them back whenever I like :)
I am still using the net to temporary cover as I damn scare people will throw down fishing line as what some bros said :D

Aro77 27-04-2016 06:56 PM

looking good bro , awaiting your updates to the shelter and the fishes ! :D

markuslee 27-04-2016 08:17 PM

Hi bro,

Is the panel free standing on the tank? The height of the panel is not high enough imo. Look can the photos from aro farm harvesting and you can see the height of the net they use.;)

elimmel 28-04-2016 12:01 PM

Really a dream come true.
For those condo ground floor units that come with private pools... Can convert the pool to pond?

Depending on space, I think that you might be able to.

Be prepared to rip out and replace the pumps and filtration system though.
Pool systems tend to be high head and medium flow. Pond systems are generally low head and high flow. Using pool pumps in a pond setting is usually a big waste of power.

You will also need to check how your bottom drains are laid out. Some things may need to be augmented to allow for proper waste clearance.

HiBlow pumps are UL rated for outdoor use. Even in heavy rain I've not have trouble. Just don't let it go swimming, or have water back into it when it is off.

Note that it is not c-UL rated and thus cannot be used outdoors in the Canadian market. This may be the source of the confusion.

Another thing, the panels go outside of the decking, so won't the fish still be able to land on it? Is it better to just have the panels surrounding the water?

No, some parts I use velcro tape while some parts are using hindges and glue permanent to hold them. It consists 2 separate panel 'systems' and they can be removed. Actually due to the 90 degree turning here and there, the whole panel structure is quite stable sitting by itself. With the velcro tape to the sides, it just enhance more...hard for me to explain...

Yes what u say is true, the aro can jump high, overlook on this :o but I really like the height of this panels, looks nice and presentable... After using the netting for so long, is really enjoyable to see my fish without the netting. Cant describe... I will see how it goes... hopefully my fish can behave themselves :)

Bro, bo bian la, my brain at that moment only can design this simple type :D My thinking is that even if the fish jumps onto the decking, they will have no escape path and will keep flipping and finally drop back into the fgt. Should not be a serious problem :)

ThomasLim 29-04-2016 09:31 PM

The shelter is finally done :)

Install LED strip around the pond and just go for a testing. I love it so much. Is so bright and I can finally see the whole pond at night. I lovethis LED strip as it can change so many colours and can adjust the brightness. My wife loves it too :D

congrats bro can share some pics , eager to see :D

am also personally using RGB LED lights , very energy saving , convenient and at night can change to on just a dim light when want to sit and admire the fishes :)

ThomasLim 30-04-2016 05:57 PM

Thks bro...

Almost done, still need to buy some air pipes and redo them. Now very messy.
My wife requests me to put back the fountain. Try to set the circumference bigger but failed :( Anyway she likes it, so I am ok too :)
Just now there is a rain, good to have a leaking test :D Everything is fine, but the shelter is a bit short and all the rain was directed into the pond from the shelter :( I have no choice about this as it is a requirement from MO to leave a 1m gap from the exterior wall  Bo bian...

http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...sgvp0p0tk.jpeg

Very nice to have the fan installed, very cooling and relax for me. I have no reason not coming back home eagerly to accompany my wife everyday :) and my fish too :D

I will take some night scene when free...
Happy fish keeping and Happy weekend ahead!

Thanks for all the nice comments and glad that you like it too :)

I didnt really do much to keep the water clear. Probably maybe my side dont have afternoon sun, so not that bad... But I know the uv light in the last chamber is a must.

Haha, kana veto? :D I used to kana too... That is why this is a dream comes true for me when my wife agreed to let me have this pond. Just keep asking her la, maybe one day she is in good mood and agree to u too :D wish u luck!

Here are some of the night shots with different colour lightings.

ThomasLim 02-05-2016 09:11 PM

Btw I am disposing the old lightings. Out of 3 lights, I think only 1 or 2 are working and 1 is confirmed spoilt. Does anyone needs the 3 long wires or the power adaptor or the working light? Hopefully someone might need some of these parts to salvage. If not, I will just dispose it off...

HI bro
very impressive setup. Can I ask what is the material used for the shades or roof?

fireblade 03-05-2016 10:46 AM

wow! nice!!!

DragonFireSG 03-05-2016 12:17 PM

Bro. Take a photo of the contents of your filter. I'm sure many folk are interested to see your secret to making the water so crystal clear.

denser 04-05-2016 10:52 AM

hi bro, can share the set-up maker? thanks
