A simple guide to setting up a vivarium

Hope my setup can help other inspiring viva builders to start on it!!!
Pls add in whatever related equipment or info into the thread

Firstly this can apply to any tank, depending whether u want a water area or not, in this case i opted for a front water layer.

The empty tank

Backing is by a cork bark

an acrylic is siliconed to form the partition

finally the front will be hidden by another cork bark

following which the setup is given 24 hours for the silicone to harden and later to be tested for any leakages

part 2: the land area and plants

the land area is first filled up with clay area

this is for easier maintanence and also cleaner hygiene as soil tends to encourage more decomposition

a pot filled partially with pellets and then some substrate is then inserted
this means smaller land area and less slowly that the focal plant will outgrow the tank

the focal plant, pitcher plant

the substrate

mosses harvested

transplanting of mosses and the focal plant

after adding driftwood at the front and some java mosses and ferns, this is the final piece

the entire land area is covered by the mosses

Not bad,but too simple. As the width is shallow, the cork bark gives it a quite unnatural look, especially with another cork bark infront. You kill the depth look. One dimension.. What i would have done is have a plastic mesh behind and encourage creepers to grow on it. Or, a moss wall.

Do not be offended.I say what i see and think. Also the pitcher plant is too big and distracting.

BUT for a starter, this piece of art surely will encourage and promote viva builders.

Good work!! :)

Updated!!!

Hi,
the tank has been revamped and here are some of the pics

the focal plant has been taken out and ferns were used instead (they can be harvested from mother nature), jus remember to wash them.

attached is also a close up on the cave formed using moss, fir bark(a type of substrate that can be bought in nurseries) and also twigs for support
