Tanning
Arcadia have produced specialised products for enriching the colouration of Arowanas
Firstly a T8 fluorescent lamp which mimics strong sunlight, emitting both UVA and UVB for natural colour development of the fish. This is a natural way to develop colour without harming the fish With the Red Arowana Lamp Red Arowana develop a natural deeper red colour and with the Golden Crown Arowana Lamp Golden Crown Arowana will develop a natural deep golden colour on the top of their heads and along their back Reflectors are available to match the lamps Red Arowana Light Code Watt Length Diameter UV-A UV-B Reflector* FAW30 30W 36″/900mm T8-26mm 27% 5% ALRS24 FAW36 36W 48″/1200mm T8-26mm 27% 5% ALRS39 Golden Crown Arowana Light Code Watt Length Diameter UV-A UV-B Reflector* FAWG30 30W 36″/900mm T8-26mm 30% 6% ALRS24 FAWG36 36W 48″/1200mm T8-26mm 30% 6% ALRS39 Alternatively we can offer a complete lighting unit including lamp, tube with integral reflector and ballast with alternative length mains leads - the Arowana T8 light fitting set. It is a unique, submersible, T8 fluorescent fitting. The UV transmissive lens material allows UV radiation from an Arcadia Arowana lamp to pass through the clear portion of the tube. When used with the Arowana lamp this replicates the natural exposure of the fish to the UVA and UVB in daylight. It also allows fish to develop a richer colour than they would under normal artificial lighting. • UV Transmissive lamp tube • High performance co-extruded reflector built in to tube • Remote ballast box • Designed specifically for the new Arcadia Arowana Lamp • Includes Arowana Lamp Red Arowana Lamp Set Lead Length Code Watt Length Diameter Lamp Mains Reflector* AWS30 30W 36″/900mm T8-26mm 66/127cm 1.5m ALRS24 AWL30 30W 36″/900mm T8-26mm 66/127cm 8m ALRS39 AWS36 36W 48″/1200mm T8-26mm 66/127cm 1.5m ALRS39 AWL36 36W 48″/1200mm T8-26mm 66/127cm 8m ALRS39 Golden Crown Arowana Lamp Set Lead Length Code Watt Length Diameter Lamp Mains Reflector* AWGS30 30W 36″/900mm T8-26mm 66/127cm 1.5m ALRS24 AWGL30 30W 36″/900mm T8-26mm 66/127cm 8m ALRS39 AWGS36 36W 48″/1200mm T8-26mm 66/127cm 1.5m ALRS39 AWGL36 36W 48″/1200mm T8-26mm 66/127cm 8m ALRS39 Hopefully this new product will help many Arowana enthusiasts to improve the health and appearance of these magnificent fish |

The average useful life of these lamps is 6000 to 8000 hours so at 8 hours a day you should be ok changing the lamps every couple of years Paul |

The Golden Crown lamp will give you the white light you are looking for. The leads lengths from the control gear to the lampholder are 66 and 127 cms (which allows for the control gear to be at one end or the other of the aquarium. The mains leads from the socket to the control gear are either 1.5m or 8m depending on which model you buy. Hope this helps Paul |

It is always a problem using any form of plastic with UV as the radiation eventually breaks down the plastic. The alternative is to use quartz but this is quite fragile and the last thing one wants is the outer tube to break under water. It is also expensive and not easy to get a good fitting/quartz seal in a way that would be aesthetically pleasing in an aquarium. We do however offer replacement tubes: the C011 (900mm) and C012 (1200mm) prices and availability from your dealer Paul s |

Could you attach the link regarding the golden crown lamp. Thank you. You mention the UV rays will disintergrate the plastic, if we are using 24/7 what the expected life span before the plastic start to crack? Cause it very dangerous once water slip in, it would cause a electrical shock all of our fishing will go up heaven ya. So we need to take note If we hang outside the tank example the thickness of the glasses is 12mm , the effectiveness of the UV rays transmitted to the aro will be cut down by how much? |

Using the D3 lamp is probably not a good idea as the lamp has some proportion of the phosphors that are used in our Original Tropical lamp and those are designed, amongst other things, for photosynthesis and I doubt the promulgation of algaes is something desired in an Arowana aquarium and the way the colours are rendered in the D3 lamp means that the appearance of the aquatope will appear unnatural. Also the amounts of UV-A and UV-B are proportionate to the requirements of the particular fish whilst the reptile lamps emit more light in the UV-B spectrum. In short the Arowana lamps are specifically engineered for arowana aquaria. Hope this helps Paul |

First below is the Arowana web page and I've had pictures of the lamps added so you see the colours. It is very difficult to say how long the plastic sleeve will last before it becomes weaker but based on the fact there is no UV-C, which is the radiation that causes most trouble, I am only guessing that changing the sleeve every second time you replace the lamp would be ok and in any case it will probably not leak if it is not moved. The lamp needs to be in the aquarium as the distance UV can travel in water is not high, but through glass, even low iron glass, is negligible. There is little risk of harm to the fish if the sleeve does leak as the voltage on the lamp is quite low as is the current and in any case, provided the aquarium water is not earthed there will be no path for the current. Obviously you should turn off the lamp before attempting to move, reposition or remove it. Hope this helps Paul http://www.arcadia-aquatic.com/arowana-t8-lamp/ |

Hopefully you will be installing the lamps inside the aquarium, in which case the UV-A and UV-B will not penetrate the glass of the aquariums and will dissipate rapidly in the water. I wouldn't think that direct viewing of the lamp would be a good idea, but I don't think it would be harmful in the short term. Remember to allow the fish to be able to escape the lighting as it would in nature so do not 'fill' the aquarium sides with lamps but keep them to a proportion of the tank Yes the double T8 controller can be used with Arowana lamps if you are buying them as separate items and yes the switch will control both lamps. If you buy the Arowana lighting set it has the control gear with it. The dimming controller is for use with our LED luminaires, not with fluorescents Hope this helps Paul |

I can't advise you on stock positions in Singapore I'm afraid, but suggest you contact: Qian Hu Corporation Limited (Yi Hu Aquarium Accessories Division) No.71 Jalan Lekar Singapore 698950 DID (65) 67661524/1549 Mobile (65) 92780800 FB They will know what they have on order and when it is likely to be in stock Paul |

No, this is definitely not a good idea! The Arcadia D3 lamp has a mixture of phosphors of which around half produce the colours we have in our Original Tropical lamp. These are centred on the red/blue spectrum required for photosynthesis in a planted aquarium and will encourage algae growth as well as distorting the colours. The Arowana lamp is designed for optimum tanning and any increase in radiation levels, unless the aquarium allows the animal to escape the radiation is not a good thing. Paul |

Personally I would use the 36" unit as this gives the fish the opportunity to move in and out of the lit area as it sees fit. I'm sure these animals have similar levels of intelligence to reptiles and we know they know when they've had enough heat or light! Paul |

The tanning light set includes a 'reflector' which is a white section of the tubes that acts as a reflector. If you are referring to an aluminium reflector such as that listed on the website it might help if the lamp is mounted over the tank and out of the water but I believe it really is not necessary in that mode and certainly not when the lamp is submerged so I would forget it! Our distributor for Singapore is: Qian Hu Corporation Limited (Yi Hu Aquarium Accessories Division) No.71 Jalan Lekar Singapore 698950 DID (65) 67661524/1549 Mobile (65) 92780800 FB and I suggest you contact them for stock and prices if you want the reflector. Hope this helps Paul |

The difficulty at the moment is getting LEDs that emit UV light. Some say they do but they don't and some say they do but die after a couple of weeks and don't really emit anything anyway! However, there are a number of companies trying to produce IR emitting LEDs and as soon as a good, reliable and economic product comes on to the OEM market Arcadia will certainly be looking at renewing the tanning lamp with an LED version - but don't hold your breath!! Paul |

Our distributor for Singapore is: Qian Hu Corporation Limited (Yi Hu Aquarium Accessories Division) No.71 Jalan Lekar Singapore 698950 DID (65) 67661524/1549 I'm sure that if they do not have them in stock they can obtain one for you fairly quickly I hope this helps Paul |

There is no reason why you shouldn't use the gold lamp with a red fish. Although it will not be as efficient it will still emit UV but just not exactly the same wavelength as the red lamp. Paul |
Quote:
I will be looking forward regarding LED that are able to emit UV light. Due to the cost of living in SG having a LED model would help hobbies like us who turn on tanning light on a 24/7 basics. Save electricity longer life time. Cheers. |

Thanks for your interest I really think that having the lamp on 24 hours a day may not be the best idea. It is daylight for a much shorter period than that and as fish have no eyelids they need some hours of darkness to sleep. So I suggest you reduce the lighting period, which means you will save energy and your expensive fish will have a longer life!! Paul |
Quote:
There is no problem in having both types of lamp in your aquarium. Remember that it takes a little time to see the effect on the fish and to make sure they have areas where they can get out of the light as they would in nature Paul |
Quote:
I can't help you with stock information or prices as firstly I don't actually work for Arcadia, I just help out with the forums and secondly prices and stock are the responsibility of the Singapore distributor. However I have been told that any of the Arcadia fittings can be ordered from the distributor if he doesn't have stock although it may take some time for it to arrive Sorry not to be more help Paul |
Quote:
You can use the OT8 possibly or the separate electronic fluorescent ultra seal controller and a reflector. Make sure your eyes are shielded from the lamp though. Paul |
Quote:
Any of the Arcadia lighting units are suitable but for the very best results the OT2 LED luminaire with dimming controller will enable you to simulate full dawn to dusk to dawn lighting. Your fish won't know they're in an aquarium I guess!!! Yours Paul |
Hi,
I had a red arowana with combination of platinum white alligator gar. I believe the arowana need the Red Arowana Lamp Red Arowana develop the colour and the alligator need Golden Crown Arowana Lamp. What should I buy for tanning both fish with 1 lamp? Can I just choose the red lamp only? I only afraid the red lamp will affect the "whiteness" of the gar. Please advise. |
Quote:
Sorry I kiasu , nv heard gar need to tan. Always thot white white plat gar will maintain white white all the way unless is wtt , then true form will appear in dark thank. |
Last time when I buy,Acadia mentioned both red and golden crown both have tanning effect , just amt slight diff, both can use. Not link to them in any way

I have no control over the distributor I'm afraid and can only suggest you ring them. If you get no response let me know but all I can do is tell the factory in the UK. They have no way of forcing the distributor to take stock. Paul |
