How to trim Vallisneria?
Hey all,
Just wondering, what is the appropriate way to trim Vallisneria? Cos i just did a rescape yesterday, and i took out my corkscrew val and gave them a haircut, before replanting. Now i'm a little worried that maybe the haircut way of trimming might not be appropriate, and the Vallisneria would start rotting. pls advice. |
need to leave some leaves on?

Whatever left of your trimmed vallis will most probably just rot off. You have to trim them right at the base of the plant, not across the leaves like a haircut. Same goes for plants like Blyxa japonica and the likes.

Trim off the runners, or cut the whole leaf off.

ya. anyway, its quite ugly to trim off the long leaves halfway, it doesn't look natural (there are no straight lines in nature), and after a week or so the edges will turn yellow then brown. lets see, if u dont like the length, then pluck (that's what i usually do) the long ones off from the base, leaving the younger shorter ones.

Hi, vallisneria is like an orion. It grows inside out. I think the best way is to trim away the outer layer. If your plant is strong, the inner part will out growth the outer layer, giving you a refreshing new layer. By the way, did you trim away some roots before you replant again? Please trim it as roots too will grow. :)
