Eden 501

hi all, juz bought one Eden 501, would lyk to noe whether is there still a need to hav a air pump for my shrimp tank if i'm using the eden501 and do i need to cover the inlet to prevent my shrimps frm goin in? the inlet seems too small for my CRS to go in:)

I dun think there is a need for air pump since its already providing water circulation around the tank already

Baby shrimps can get sucked in voluntarily while exploring the inlet.. therefore it would be best if you are able to add a piece or netting etc. to prevent that.

I had found 2 baby shrimps in my 501 cannister before :D

Cover it with filter foam, safer. Shrimplets can still be sucked in through fine nettings.

Anyway if you are worried about DO, you can point the return of the filter more to an elevated angle to agitate the water surface, or perhaps you can just put the return closer to the surface.

oic, i wonder will it affect the flowrate? as the inlet for eden501 is those rectangular shape wan, cant use those round filter spoonge to cover the inlet, so gt to use those thin filter wool?

Yeah I noticed that the flowrate will reduce quite abit after around 3 - 4 months.. and that's when I will do maintenance.

I hv a friend who used internal filter for his shrimp tank and never maintenance for 6 months. The flow is very weak but the shrimp is ok with it. I am wondering is flow rate really important for the shrimp?
