Small issue.

johannes 04-01-2012 01:27 PM

what happened to your PNTs bro?

Schmike 04-01-2012 01:37 PM

The bigger ones got sucked by the L001 n the smaller one got whacked by the 2 bigger ones. Still monitoring the situation.

johannes 04-01-2012 01:41 PM

those yellow2 stuff near the tails are wounds?

Schmike 04-01-2012 01:42 PM

Correct. The yellow patch on the 2 bigger ones.

johannes 04-01-2012 01:44 PM

they look really cute inverted like that...
the small one especially... :p

Flavs 04-01-2012 01:54 PM

It's due to the waste being broken down to amounia...

It's more like their bioload is much higher than fishes. I never had any problem with fishes in the same tank.

All waste contains ammonia which are broken down into nitrite and then nitrate by BB.

Hey guys! How fast can i expect a 3-4" piece to grow? Also, does the sex of the PNT determine how fast they will grow? Thanks!

Tsk tsk

Typically the growth rate is about 1 inch a year +/- but there can be sudden growth spurts.

Sex does not not determine growth rate from what I know

Thanks Elindra! As for temperament, would sex determine aggressiveness and what not?

Just to highlight once again. It is illegal to Sell or Buy a PNT now.
However if you had bought one before the ban, you are allowed to keep it.
The PNT you bought back then should now be around 8-10 inches depending on growth rate and size of housing.

1) This is dependent on the PNT's personality. Some are known to be killers and nippers but from my experience, they only attack injured or dying fishes or really slow fishes (Didn't face problems when housed with a Gulper cat though)

In my case, I had more problems of my fish injuring my PNT than the other way.

2) No. PNTs can grow to a shell length of about 70cm. You will sooner or later need a pond.

julian1995 05-01-2012 12:22 PM

Oh.but can i buy one from a person who bought the pnt before the ban?thanks alot for the answers!:)

Definately not! But as an army saying goes, u can do anythinggg but don't get caught:p

Gus 05-01-2012 01:33 PM

Hi Julian actually you can catch pnt from some of the pond in spore due to some owner releasing it.............

My son fish one out abot 3/4kg damn big and I caught one about plam size so you might want to try your luck and check whether any of the pond there's pnt by throwing in some bread and see.

Just so you guys know, removing or releasing "wildlife" in public ponds/reservoirs/lakes are also illegal.

Gus 05-01-2012 01:37 PM

Maybe you should spend some time reading (Articles, Resources & FAQs under the topic of PNTShrine)

It is illegal to buy/sell any pnt irregardless of the size now.

Catching of any wildlife from the wild, be it local or foreign species is also illegal.

Well this is Singapore :o
I just wish they relax the rules a little but I think it's hard.
Just look at the news on abandoned bunnies.

This year some fengshui master says it's good to keep fish especially luohan, parrots, discus, aro etc so I guess when the year of the snake arrives next year, our canals will be filled with luohans again.

Wow, next year sure a lot people standby at reservoirs fishing lol!

Anyway, I caught a Malaysian box turtle at McRitchie before..when I was just a sec school boy.. A kaypo auntie come n tell me to release.. Tried to smoke her that they are introduced species and would be better for our environment if removed etc etc but nv work... She say she will tell the ranger.. So i LL put back hahahahaha...those were the younger days.

Anyway, still a firm believer of what my encek told me "do what you want but don't get caught" :D

And I'm still regretting letting go my 8" PNT when I was having O levels.. If 1yr grow 1"... It should be easily 15" now :o

My PNT currently has some small wounds at the tail end. What are some good medications to keep at home in case of injuries/infections and other stuff? Also, what are the procedures of curing such illnesses? Thanks!

Schmike 06-01-2012 02:47 PM

Yellow powder and fine salt.

Hmm so is it fine salt on the wound or in the water better? What's your WC routine for PNT tank?

Schmike 06-01-2012 07:01 PM

What I normally do is fine salt + yellow powder on wound and leave the PNT out of water for ~15-30 mins.

Only very serious conditions I will add in lots of salt in the tank after doing the above.

Bacidin can be used to clean the wounds too if you can get your hands on it. I normally get it from the vet.

Since there is nt any infection yet just increase the salt content of the water to ard 2-4%. My WC routine for my PNT is 10% per wk.
