Good Work.
I'm sticking this thread and hope the data can be expanded and updated regularly.

Mod, any chance to sticky this info too?

"We are concerned with 2 things in tap water. Chlorine and chloramine. As we know, chlorine can be removed by aging and aeration or adding anti-chlorine which removes it instantly.

We need to be aware and understand that anti-chlorine products vary differently. It is noticeable that the technology improves over time with point 3. being the latest technology.

1. Some only remove chlorine.

2. Some remove both clorine and chloramine only. For chlorine removal, there is no byproducts but as chloramine is chemically stable, unbreaking the bonds would release ammonia. An example of this product is Fritz Guard. This must be used with Fritz Ammonia Remover to neutralize toxic ammonia prior to the introduction of aquatic life. Therefore, 2 products are now required to keep the water safe.

3. There are few 3-in-1s. A few products can remove both chlorine and chloramine and detoxify the ammonia. Seachem Prime is an example."

-------------

Hydher, for api stresscoat.

According to the directions
To remove chlorine and neutralize chloramine

which is =~5.26ml per 20L

20 L = 1 conventional red pail

I could not fill the conventional red pail with 8 pet bottles of 1.5 litre each. So I guess the pail can only take about 12 litres to the brim at most .

Hydher 26-05-2008 09:57 AM

1 pet bottle is 2l. =.=

silverwind2712 13-10-2008 10:50 PM

i thought 1.5l? maybe there's different brands, but the common coke brand is 1.5l right? anyway, ocean free Fish guard not good because it doesn't remove the ammonia? any opinions on this? i just bought a new 120ml bottle.. boo... i'm using it mainly for my only betta..

how would we know? we are not a scientist. Chloramines levels may differ as much as the composition of your conditioner over different times and brands. So how much is enough? Too subjective to be discussed. No definite answers, just experiences with different brands. Dun have to be too scientific about it as many fish can tolerate some levels and over time due to ageing and dilution the levels will drop. Just follow the labels and monitor your fish. If possible, invest in a kit to check for the levels of chloramine and other parameters for valued or expensive fish. Direct your efforts to other parameters like food, not too drastic water change, stress from traffic n other fishes disturbing it. :)

fyi, many are overdosing on prime(a conditioner brand) on aro tanks. From my exp, bros who drop prime on e fins of long tailed fighting fishes, notices a hole in the tail.
