Bro,

Might want to let the "commandos" try out for a few more days before introducing your Aro & Rays. Takes a while for BB to develop.

Congrats once again!

Bro xiaomarkge is correct.:) bb not developed yet, very risky for higher value commandos.

Hi bro,

Nice pond setup you got there..

I noticed the water level is quite high and near the brim of the FGT. You might want to consider a proper netting cover for the tank if you intend to keep arowana in there. They are well known to be good jumpers. Same for some bichirs if you have intention of getting them as tank mates in the future.

ThomasLim 11-11-2014 12:46 AM

For info.... The canvas is not mine la... The condo is having some painting work and the painters help to cover up my area with their canvas 😊

It seems there are so many issues for me to take care of 😅
anyway thanks for the valuable advises. It helps...

nutx 11-11-2014 09:16 AM

Bro..black blackground has no issue with white spot ray.
I also keep my ray in black base pond.:)

When you add in your aro and ray, remember to monitor the ammonia for initial few days, with some water change, as the increase in bioload will cause some ammonia spike.:)

sen_jie 11-11-2014 09:35 AM

you may need to consider lowering the water alittle. Unless there is a "brace" like on the top to prevent your rays from doing chin-up and "fly" out of your tank.

Very Nice Setup!
Do take your time to cycle yr pond.
The risk is always very high(for new setup)... and unnecessary incidents of "losing" our precious fish is lurking around when we drop our guards.
U may consider buying those grey pvc pipes(I wuld use those 16 or20mm size-for more strength across the width of yr pond) to form a rectangle with pvc netting.
Create 2-3 rectangular covers and u can pour some sands/pebbles to weight down the two shorter end.
Happy DIYing :)

I still think ranchu or lion head will be good! :D aros and rays can try lah, but scare later owner get stress….

morriselma 11-11-2014 03:03 PM

congrats on your setup!!

Nice pond....

Do strongly consider talking to the condo people about having a shelter. You could band up with the other ground unit owners. Agree on an approved design so the committee will be happy.

99% someone will throw something down somewhere. Maybe not your unit.

I'd suggest something like a wood terrace with clear polycarbonate roof. so it will be bright.

Top view ranchus would be nice. Go Mainland this Sun and grab a few after the TVR show:) Think you can only keep fishes that do not jump or do chin-ups:D

thinking allowed...can diy a taller fence (4 sides) from bottom of tank up, maybe from platform up another 2ft.. that way can keep ray and aros liao... but may not be that nice already.. can install a netting cover with the fence edge to solve the high-rise-litterer problem.

Bro don't understand leh.. Drawing please

Today I make a temporary netting so that I can safely put my Red in the pond without worrying that it will jump out. Is a bit ugly 😁
http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4f842ecb.jpg

I am really surprise today that my Red is so tame. She allows me to bag her into the bag easily and didn't even struggle at all during acclimation, till she is in the pond. When she is in the pond, she kept swimming back at me allowing to touch her. Though she has PLJ, she looks so pretty to me. I am glad to see that she has a bigger space to swim now... Here is a video after I release her into the pond.
http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...psx0wjripb.mp4

I have also transferred part of my medias (from my existing sump tank) into the pond filter. When I transfer my SP rays, I will transfer the rest of the medias. I think the ammonia spike is not really an issue as there are only a few fish in the pond at the moment and also there are mature medias being transferred. But to be safe, I have tested the parameters, so far so good. Will keep monitoring these.

My main concern now is the fluctuation of pH- whether the rain water is that acidic. I will keep an eye on this.

Once again, thanks for all the advises. All are well noted. Cheers.

Envy u have such a nice playground. Thumb up

lukeber 12-11-2014 10:00 PM

Bro, nice pond. Under direct sun without shade might be too hot. During noon time, what's the temperature of the water?

nutx 12-11-2014 10:55 PM

Bro...your netting looks weak. Aro is very powerful when they jump.
:)

Ben 12-11-2014 11:12 PM

beautiful..... would give alot to have something like this :D

jyee 18-11-2014 04:39 PM

i believe the view from the rooms will definitely the best view for this pond.

ThomasLim 22-11-2014 07:32 PM

Hi bros,

Thanks for all the comments. Yes, the net is temporary and I am still cracking my head on how to make the shelter looks good. Need some time...

I have changed the base of the pond to white as the original black base pose difficulty for me to view the fishes. Initially there is problem as the white acrylic board couldn't 'sink' as the current flow in the fgt is pretty strong. I manage to get helps from my builder as he made some weights and painted them 'white' for me 👍 With the weights, I managed to 'station' the board down with ease 😄 It is a 'scary' experience for me as I have to walk in the pond to make sure the board is laid nicely. Luckily my rays are tame and didn't really cause me any problem.

My Red has suddenly fast for the past few days. I am not sure of the reason. I check the parameters and all are ok. Except that the pH is 6+ At my old house and the pond pH is 7+. I think the high pH could be due to the coral chips and shells which were placed to act as buffer. I do not dare to remove as I was afraid as the pond stabilize, the pH will drop. I just hope my Red will start eating soon. I am getting Mirage Vita to try out and see if it helps.

I also notice that my water looks yellowish. Is it because the water is stained? Or is some kind of reflection? Any advise on this?

Ok, here are some pics to share. Cheers

sfk7 22-11-2014 09:15 PM

Paint that you used is safe for aquarium? If not you might want to get some activated carbon just in case

No78 22-11-2014 09:53 PM

thee_boss 23-11-2014 12:33 AM

can ask how thick is the glass viewing panel and its dimensions?

john ng 23-11-2014 09:35 AM

beware of water parameters as pond looks like it will take a lot of run off water frm the building. seems like algea is going to be a big issue too. like some others have pointed out, water temperature may be too great as there doesnt seem to be any shade.

Zhuoyuting 23-11-2014 10:20 AM

You may want to buy floating plants as shade?

JP91 23-11-2014 10:35 AM

Very nice!!

lwm66 23-11-2014 11:59 AM
