Hemianthus Callitrichoides
well,i hope i post in the correct section.. :o
i wanna ask a question regarding the above-mentioned.. saw an lfs selling the plants tied onto rocks.. i wanna create a carpet lawn on my foreground using this plant.. my question is,do i just plant the whole of the HC (including the rock) or untie it and plant it one by one? anyone have experience keeping this plant, pleases help.. thanks.. regards, taufiq |
If you untie it and plant one by one, you need the patience to slowly push those plantlets into the gravel. Like miniature glosso.
I think it'll be better to bury the rock in the substrate so that HC is exposed above the gravel. Or, untie it but do not seperate the bunch and plant the bunch in the gravel by burying part of the bunch. HC cannot have yamatos or cories or fauna that can disturb it from the gravel at the initial planting stage. Try to get submersed types instead of emersed ones, because the emersed type can take very long to convert. |
hi |squee|,
i believe the ones that are tied to the stone, are submerged type  |
which lfs you saw it at?
i believe most HC tied to rocks are grown emersed. |

The HC "cuba" I used to get tend to be grown emmersed. They are usually put in plastic bags so that probably means that they are not grown submersed. Its easier for the farms to grow them that way either.
Anyway the problem of planting them is that it is very difficult for them to get a foothold into the substrate. I always plant them in for a few weeks first before introducing any fishes/shrimps to prevent them from sifting around and pull them out. |

my advice is, don't go for the emersed HC unless you have the patience to slowly let it convert. i believe you can find submersed HC at Colourful Aquarium or Ecoculture, but might need to pre-order. |
Eco's HC also emersed U have to "change" them b4 planting.
