reusing Activated Carbon/Charcoal

Hey bros..sorry i don't have time to search around and all.. hoping u guys can share some info -

how long is the usage of AC before it expires? I heard there are ways to "recharge" it by heating it..is it true?

Depending on the quality of the GAC it can lasts a few weeks depending on the condition of the tank water. Initially you may need to replace them at shorter intervals but on a longer period ..... its effectiveness of purifying the water lasts weeks (even to the extend of 2 months).

You will notice a yellowish or brownish tink in the water or a rise in phosphate means that it is time to replace the GAC as it has loss its absorption capacity.

You can't recharge GAC as this is not silica gel where you can "zap" or "re-charge" using heat for re-use again.

yea its time to get new ones when you notice your water changes colour, to a bit yellowish. actually best to change monthly depending on the quality of the activated carbon.

Personally, I change mine every 3 weeks.

Chemi-pure can last longer, right? Something like 3-4 months, so is it better than activated carbon?

You can prolong the charcoal by taking it out and wash it under water, rubbing the pack till more black dust comes out. Many a time, the charcoal is not fully ultilized as sludge form on the surface. Doing so will allow you to extend the lifespan by "once". Chemipure or this quality range can wash twice.

When no more little charcoal dust comes out after rub wash, the charcoal is to be thrown.
