How to prepare for filtration of a pond?
Hi Bros,
I was thinking of renting a pond (10 by 5 by 2 and was thinking of housing my rays ( 9 inches : 4 pieces ) and aros ( 18 inches - 4 pieces). Some question to ask : 1) What type of pump should I use? 2)What type of media should I use( bacteria house and CR sufficient?) 3) what are the things to watch out for? Thanks. |
Mud pond? Cement pond?

Sorry, it is a cement pond!
Thanks! |
Doesn't the pond come with a built in filtration system?

Go for a mix of filter media. There's a bio and mechanical portion. My setup has a wool filtration at the first compartment to get all the large chunky bits then bio. If you have the $, can consider adding a UV light inside also. I personally don't use one but there are people who swear by it as green water is a chore to resolve. |
For the amount of media , do you calculate the way we calculate for tank?
Or for pond ( larger body of water) , the media can be lesser? Thanks. |

personally i like to not think before feeding my fishes where else if u have an under powered filter u would always be thinking if your filter can handle the bioload.. would suggest having a good mechanical so u would not have to clean your bio very often :) |

1) electricity bill - watts of the pump 2) Back up pump- incase 1 break down 3) how to make sure water circulation 4) turnover rate of the pond water 5) sun light 6) algae issue 7) type of water going to use. 8) sheltered or non sheltered 9) May - Jul hot sun Vs Nov to Dec - rainy season 10) water ph, ammonia, temperature these are some of the consideration |
last qn is, how much is your budget :)
that can be a good deciding factor on how you design your pond filtration too |
Anyone have a picture of the rented pond's filter?
