The algea look great. Can consider let it carpet. Haha

terence84 26-01-2015 10:41 AM

Nice 1. Amazing. Thumb up

oddballz82 26-01-2015 12:33 PM

Nice tank :)

Thanks for sharing ;)

joshdway 26-01-2015 01:12 PM

nicely done!

as for a full algae carpet, I think it might be a little hard
algae do not grow much at area where there's surface water movement
such as near your fountain

in my pond, algae doesn't seem to grow near the venture area
maybe the surface movement acts similarly to shading?

ALPHA 29-01-2015 05:33 AM

Very impressive setup! The fishes looks peaceful. Thank you for sharing the updates. :)

Brichardi 29-01-2015 07:18 PM

Looking good bud! However, I forsee you have an enormous task maintenanc-ing it but I'm sure you will be able to overcome w/e obstacles. Do keep us updated and thanks again for sharing! :D

Thks bro...

3 of my fishes have some problem and I am pretty worry...
First is my smaller Albino knife. It got bitten or attacked. Very badly injured with red slashes. Very bloody and scary. See the pic. It is being isolated and hopefully it can recover soon.
http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...ps93f7973c.jpg

Then came one of my catfish. Dont know why it suddenly spin and spin... Looks going to up lorry soon... See the video. It is also being isolated so that it will not be attacked by other fishes, and easier for me to scoop it up if it really gone :(
http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...pspeblyafi.mp4

Last came the unlucky xb. I forgot to hook back and secure the net after isolating the catfish and this xb jumps out of the fgt while I was not around. Luckily I could be back in time and put it back in pond. Not sure how long has it stayed out from the water and if it had 'sucked' in lots of air and caused it to have its back floated above the water now. SBP? See the pic. Hopefully it will recover by itself.

http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6dd41172.jpg

Lets just hope these 3 fishes could recover soon...

ALPHA 31-01-2015 04:33 AM

Sorry to hear that, hope your fishes recover real soon. :o

Brichardi 31-01-2015 12:31 PM

Wa....jialat injuries to the albino.....hope it recovers soon.

Can't access the video of the catfish but that arrowana looking like it will be alright. All the best!

ThomasLim 31-01-2015 11:10 PM

This morning my xb really dont look good and it turn upside down. I quickly bought Epson salt and hoping that I could do something to save it.... But I can't...

It passed away this evening after with me for about 20 months. After quitting this hobby for several years, I restart with this xb. I really feel so sad that now it had gone. Just a few days ago, it was still strong and healthy.... Now it is dead.

I believe that it had suffered serious internal injury and also had been out from the water for too long, taking in too much air... I still naively thought that I had managed to come back in time to save its life.... It is just too late...

I will really miss this xb....
Rest in peace....

onlyyouknow 01-02-2015 12:00 AM

Sorry for your loss. Its a nice looking XB.

Vitor 01-02-2015 12:36 AM

Well dun take it too hard, it's part and parcel of keeping.
Maybe it help u block bad stuff in exchange;)

ThomasLim 01-02-2015 05:31 PM

Thanks bros... Appreciate it.

joshdway 02-02-2015 12:03 AM

sorry about your XB.
its always sad when it happens

about your albino knife
it looks like a bird or maybe even kingfisher
is this even with the net covered?

muser 04-02-2015 03:47 AM

Sorry about your loss...
I seriously wonder what's the cause...
In a bid to prevent future similar accidents, may I suggest checking/guarding against the below scenarios:

1. Stinging by stingray
2. Attacks by birds / cats
3. Flying insect temptations (causing aro to jump too enthusiastically over boundaries)
4. Chemicals (detergent, clove oil, etc) dripping down from above

neh88 04-02-2015 07:35 AM

Sorry abt yr loss

ThomasLim 07-02-2015 12:08 AM

Thks bro...

After adding 9kg of Epsom salt and full dose od OF 'O' Arowana Disease, both the knife and catfish had recovered.

Just to check, is there any place where I can find large quantity of Epsom salt (say 20kg)? Just in case I need it again in future...

Cheers

ThomasLim 07-02-2015 12:43 AM

Haha... Just to clarify some bros enquiries:- adding the Epsom salt is not for the knife. It was intended for my xb and the catfish then, as my xb was suffering from SBP before it died. Sorry for the confusion. Cheers!

Vitor 07-02-2015 02:43 AM

No need espon, unless u special need.

Normal aquarium salt ok liao,

Hummingbird 07-02-2015 11:22 AM

Sorry for ur loss.

patclay 07-02-2015 12:08 PM

You can use aquarium salt, but it doesnt need to be branded or epsom salt. Normal salt is sufficient.

ThomasLim 16-02-2015 11:17 PM

Should have asked first... Wasted so much buying those Epsom salt... Anyway thanks a lot, bro.

TaNgS_RuLe 17-02-2015 09:58 AM

No normal aquarium salt would probably not help with SBP, you need Epsom salt which is a laxative. Please refer to the following website for a write up:

ThomasLim 01-03-2015 07:03 PM

Now I am quite clear about the difference in Epson salt and Aquarium salt. Really thanks for the info. Also would like to thanks those bro who Up me. Thanks.

After few weeks of trial, I decided to clear away all the algae as it dont really help much in reducing the nitrate and it is not as presentable as I had thought. Thus I got myself 2 Fei Fengs of size 4"-5". Sadly, they became expensive feeders after just one night 😩 A lesson learnt.

Then I got myself another 3 giant Fei Fengs. Here are some pics to show before and after of the jobs done by them.

The 3 giant Fei Feng intro into my pond which is full of algae.

The amazing work done by my hardworking Fei Fengs in just a few days.

Fei Feng is really a good algae eater....
Cheers

Kiang 01-03-2015 07:10 PM

Wow!

Sparking white now

Shadow7 01-03-2015 09:40 PM

Nice job done by the 3 FF, remember to give them a big Angbao for CNY ah :D

matthew 01-03-2015 09:56 PM

Monitor the ff as they got reputation of sucking rays slime when they hungry

patclay 01-03-2015 10:18 PM

Really amazing what the FF can do...

Vitor 01-03-2015 10:36 PM

Actually 1 pc , given more time will also clean so clean.
And more food for 1 pc. And now no algea, wafer have to throw more liao

kepala sakit 02-03-2015 08:24 AM

Imo. Can't expect a low reading for No3 wif such little amount of algae, it'll spiral wif non, else WC is the option for reduction of level.

Squid 02-03-2015 09:08 AM

wow wow ! your Feifengs did a good job :D
pond super clean again :)

ThomasLim 29-03-2015 09:00 PM

What will you do if there is a pair in your fgt?

I just confirm that, but I have no extra tank to separate them as the tank in my office had just recently used to house another pair.... What will happen if I just leave them in the fgt? Any advise?

http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2ffepper.mp4

Zozo 29-03-2015 09:55 PM

I not sure of ur pair xb but I'm worry abt ur rays with such huge ff around.

Dun look like pairing dance leh bro...
If really pair up...u can diy a partition tank with pipes as the structure, pvc net as the wall and base.

ThomasLim 30-03-2015 11:10 AM

Haha... At the moment, the ff is not disturbing my rays, so I am ok with it. However the 2 ff will royal rumble occasionally and causing big splash. You will be wet if you are 'lucky' enough 😅

O... I am rather new in this. I had seen them trying to rub each others many times even though there are many spectators around them. And one of the fish always trying to stay close the other. Occasionally I heard the vibrating noise from the fgt... So I thought they are pairing. Cheers.

Shiro 30-03-2015 03:07 PM

One of the nicest pond i seem so far ..
Good job ..
Cheers .
