Fluval Fx5 producing lots of microbubbles and noise.

Hey guys, and to all Fx5 users, i noticed my Fx5 despite making sure everything is place properly, still produced micro bubbles and noise when i turn it on.. search on the internet also shows that its a common problem, but seems like no one can have this problem solved.. any idea? i guess im calling fluval tomorrow.

air trapped? try to 'shake' it ..might help

ranmaru1987 18-01-2011 12:01 AM

Try shaking it or on and off it.. Its trapped air bubbles.. If I'm not wrong the fx5 will auto shut off and on every 24hr to get rid of trapped bubbles.. Mine used to have the same prob for the first time I set up or after everytine I open up the canister.. But a few days later Jiu ok le..

gereld_hor 18-01-2011 12:03 AM

try to off and on again.. anyway it has a auto purging function.. every 24hrs it will auto stop and purge out the air in it.. did u place any air stone near the inlet/outlet??

EvolutionZ 18-01-2011 12:06 AM

actually, from what i gathered through internet, fluval says problem comes when :
filter is clogged, but mine is a new set up...
filter media too packed, could be.. i shall try reducing some tomorrow.
air stone placed near, no air stone in tank.

yea, theres auto purge, but filter is not yet 24 hours.. but i did on and off repeately and it keep purging out air but still blow lots of micro bubbles.. driving me crazy liao.. i shall oil the O-ring tomorrow, clean everything again and reduce media. if this is not working, im giving fluval a call..

another thing is, if it is trapped air bubble, all bubbles should be gone when i try to on and off or shake it.. i even let it run for 2 hours with all the micro blubbles flying around, im guessing some where theres air going in..

u cnnt expect all the air to be purge out so quickly.. there might still be small pockets of air trapped between your medias... give the system some time.. i also fill my medias to the brim.. so far so gd.. best canister i used:)

Bro, did u tighten all the hand-tighten knob firmly? The backflush valve fully closed? Any leakage from backflush valve?

Also, did u push the inlet & outlet valve in fully till u hear a soft click?

Just my thinking of possibilities.
Currently running 1 unit of FX5 never face this issue b4 (touchwood)...:p

ranmaru1987 18-01-2011 12:47 AM

ya bro.. many many bubbles and air will be trapped in pores of media.. pores in the sponge.. and many nooks and crannies.. mine took 2-3days to clear.. lol.. i think what fluval says about the problems is not when u just set up ba.. but if u set up for quite some time and suddenly got micro bubbles then maybe is the problems that they stated.. i would leave it and monitor a few more days.. cos if u open up the canister again, new air would get trapped inside..

ok.. the filter is ok now.. guess im just too paranoid.. one guy said his filter has been producing micro bubbles for 5 mths! now the problem is after one over night tank still cloudy, i guess the filter sponge in the Fx5 not fine enough?

bro.. glad the micro bubbles issue is resolved.. keep fish must relax, dun stress yourself..

the cloudy part could be due to bacteria boom in ur new tank or it could be high bio-load.. and normally if u disturb your medias or use new medias, it will take time for the particles to settle down..

the orginal spoonge for FX-5 is gd enough.. 3 trays of sponge filtration:)

true bro.. hmm.. the sponge provided just by looks is not as fine as sera filter wool though.. or rather, not even near the fineness of sera filter wool.. shall give it more time.
