I think the environment has a lot to play.
Also, I think they only get really golden when they hit almost 2 feet or so. I've seen them very golden, but they were all above 2 feet.

That's a Barramundi. No one in the right mind releases a Japanese perch. Look how many of them there are in Singapore in the first place. Not a Nile either.

I think it's more of a culture thing. They see fit to make their tanks have good displays to draw in customers and what not, but they price their fish much higher than we do here because they have to...

Saltwater crocs I bet... Don't bother with Crocs guys, honestly. As much as I love reptiles myself, no average person in Singapore has any kind of setup suitable for a Crocodilian.

Many crocs are available. I'm not sure what Malaysian farms have, but probably Salties or Freshies(one of the asian species).
No croc NEEDS marine salt by the way. They aren't fish.

But just for everyone's information, hey can grow very very quickly. I think those in farms are usually Saltwater Crocs. These get very big, and are very very mean....
