I am using MP currently.
For nitrate, hasn't seen any difference. Probably need a very large quantity of MP and set correct flow rate.

same thing happened to mine before when I hand itchy disturbed the gravel and stones. Just add salt and keep tank water clean. Will clear up in a few days.

My longest for Frontosa/Moba colony is about 5 years. They tend to develop cloudy eyes and never recover and die within a year.

Now restarted with a new group and hope will last longer.
