I always had the notion that having a KH of 4 is ideal but recently I was told it doesn't really matter.
But I always like to err on the side of caution since with CO2 injections I prefer to have around a dKH of 4 to prevent pH swings. I had unusually low KH for one of my tanks and the inhabitants were wiped out due to the pH spikes.
