And also, might i suggest next time you put in some soil around the 4 edges of the tank first, then put the sand in the center then cover everything up with the remaining soil so you won't get the weird edges in the front of the tank where you can see both the soil and the sand beneath it. This is a planted tank afterall so you'll want it as beautiful as possible. It's a really beautiful tank and the set up is lovely although i'm with you on the height of the stand. That must be the Michael Jordan of all stands! Would love to see more updates on a fully grown and flourishing tank!

Here's what i was talking about regarding the edges. Look at step 6. This link is for using mineralized soil whereas what i was talking about is just purely organic potting soil as an "undercoat", two different things. Courtesy of aquaticplantcentral.com

Hi Sunday thanks for the comments.

I had used sand as base as I'm trying to create a layered look....but did a bad job as I didn't level them evenly thus created this uneven layers.... Think I made a mistake using sand cos was told by the LFS that was the old method it's best just to use soil.
Will try it when if I start a new 3ft next round.

Read thru the setup from the thread and it looks really complicated. As for me I had just washed the sand and cycled it in my tank for like 4-5days before I started planting...
See step 5 he actually added "Clay"..!!! really something new to me...

But the end-results does look solid....
