It is a powerful oxidizer and antiseptic. It is used as a fish treatment in lower concentrations to burn off dissolved organics and kill bacteria.
At higher concentrations, it burns off the thin oil film coating the surface of freshly made K1 and helps the BB stick to the K1.
You might recognize it in the light pink PP wash used for treating human cuts and wounds.
