Erm, if you do have the ceamic diffusors with the long coils, you might not want to have the bubble counter since you can pretty much see the coils to measure the bps, but then the bubble counter do have another purpose.

Sometimes when your check valve leaks, the bubble counter is one of the best line of defense. The bubble counter can catch some of the leaks, provided your bubbles counter is not filled to the brim. I've had on 2 occasions been saved by the counter when my check valve failed on me.
