That's hypothesis.
Put it this way, his political career is more turbulence than LTK, having been voted out of SDP, moved to SPP that is an alliance party of SDA and than withdrawing from SDA.
Old man respected Chiam because he is careful and very much softer in his approaches, not to go near the line. Btw they are in a way related.
