@eyescar , u can install a overflow pipe to help keep your water from overflowing..
As for using rain water for water changes , i am not entirely sure but i have had rain water fall into my FGT before , so far nothing happened except for PH drop. pls do update on your experiment on doing water change with rainwater , maybe dont try on your main tank first.
