Your body prefer to use carbo or fat for energy?

Ammonia is not a problem. Nitrate is. Plants will fight with bbs for ammonia. If the plant is winning, nitrate will reduce as the ammonia will not be oxidised to nitrite to nitrate.

No need to use seeds. Just use the unwanted bottom section which normally gets discarded ...can liao.

Don't have sufficient lighting....so stopped after 3 mths.

During that period...do you see any drop in Ammonia and Nitrate?

All right. Care to share how you planted them ? Did you use any gravel/soil for them, or just left them above the filter like a hydroponics system ?

Would an outdoor condition with daily routine of sunlight exposure during daytime be sufficient for the Kangkong to survive ?

Thanks.

Aquatic Plants Prefer Ammonium Over Nitrates. Only when the ammonium was gone, did it seriously take up nitrates. Nitrate uptake seems to require more effort for aquatic plants than ammonium.

Only 4 of the 33 species preferred nitrates.

Ammonium:
1) Agrostis canina
2) Callitriche hamulata
3) Ceratophyllum demersum
4) Drepanocladus fluitans
5) Eichhornia crassipes
6) Elodea densa
7) Elodea nuttallii
8) Fontinalis antipyretica
9) Hydrocotyle umbellata
10) Juncus bulbosus
11) Jungermannia vulcanicola
12) Lemna gibba
13) Lemna minor
14) Marchantia polymorpha
15) Myriophyllum spicatum
16) Pistia stratiotes (water lettuce)
17) Ranunculus fluitans
18) Salvinia molesta
19) Scapania undulata
20) Sphagnum cuspidatum
21) Sphagnum fallax
22) Sphagnum flexuosum
23) Sphagnum fuscum
24) Sphagnum magellanicum
25) Sphagnum papillosum
26) Sphagnum pulchrum
27) Sphagnum rubellum
28) Spirodela oligorrhiza
29) Zostera marina

Nitrate:
30) Echinodorus ranunculoides
31) Littorella uniflora
32) Lobelia dortmanna
33) Luronium natans

Thanks for the pictures!

A picture tells a thousand words...

So... for a 6ft tank... how big a surface area you reckon is sufficient? Say... kangkong planted heavily side by side + strong lighting on a 4hrs cycle?
