Wah, so long never come in, so many new EBH owners! Nice hooks, bro Mark, Chewy and Patrick! EBHs eat almost anything. As long as it's in the tank, they will try to eat it. Mine are on Hikari Carnivore pellets, Sinking Wafers, Carnivore sticks, Algae wafers and MP...

I have a group of 7 in a 180g with my aro. They are 6" to 8".
For the whole time I have them since the beginning of the year, I never see much red on their belly or tail. And their bar is never darken up. I am wondering if the is water issue. My ph is around 8 and water is very hard.
They look very healthy. Eating like pigs.
Bro Sundays, any reason why you keep your PH at 8. Seems relatively high, since most aro/EBH owners I know tend to keep ph around 7 plus/minus 0.5 or so.

Thanks bros!
I am from Canada. Our water from tap has 8+ ph and approx 300ppm hardness.
I keep all my soft water fish in this type of water including altum angles.
I tried mixing RO to tap to reduce the hardness hoping of the ph drop. My RO is rated 160g per day but it only generate appox 40-50g in the summer and a lot less in winter due to the water pressure and temperature. It just couldn't make enough RO for me to do my regular water change. I eventually gave up. All my soft water fish never show any stress from the high ph and hardness.
May the lack of red is due the high PH and hardness?
