Oh.. I get what you mean now.

Think I will just use my fingers to plow the soil gently once in awhile to loosen them and also to release those trapped stuff.

Can check on the fishes at the same time too... LOL

I think its not just about conditioning the water. He actually wants the fish to be able to muck around in the soil.

btw, anyone tried using undergravel filter with soil ?

No need to run it 24/7 as main filtration system for the tank but get it going say once every fortnight for short time just to get some movement underneath.

Even if you siphon every week you will still get the murky water because that's the nature of soil. But you can always try and see how it goes.

Surely.. definitely cant compare the clarity with sand or gravel.

Set up both tanks at the same time. Same filter model, same batch of moss... both 2ft tank... See the diff...
