Oso, noticed you did not give credit to the person holding the flash! According to marshy, it is an extremely important role!

steven "bueh" steady "tekan" me ... this one ahh ... very hard to explain with words leh ... draw "lagi" challenging ..

*Resources & Techniques utilized for pics*

[Brooding Aro - 1st Pic]
> Resources
- D90 Camera + 17-50mm Tamron F2.8 + 67mm B+W CPL KSM
- SB900 commander-mode on hotshoe (Flash tilted right to trigger remote flash & prevent reflections from flash)
- SB900 remote-mode on VAF (voice activated flash) proudly assisted by Mrs Sotong aka kiTTen. ^.^ marshy will really hate me upon reading this.

> Shooting Technique
- Camera angled downwards to avoid reflections
- tilted side ways (well the aro is a weird position) - some would advise against this due to distortions and inconsistent colouration issues.

> Things to note
- Tank water is highly saturated in tanin
- Strong flash with smaller aperature & lower ISO will result in less ambient light getting less flares from background cos light from background will be slower.
- Scenarios as such is truely challenging to capture true natural colours of subject.

[XB Aro - 2nd Pic]

> Resources
- D90 Camera + 17-50mm Tamron F2.8 + 67mm B+W CPL KSM
- No flash utilised (Sunlight was so bright that I'm almost roasted)

> Shooting Technique
- Camera angled downwards to avoid reflections
- lens is parallel to glass to get even colouration. (Aro scales reflect different colours at different angles.)

> Things to note
- High shutter speed, aro is swimming in circles at pretty fast speed
- Lower ISO, less ambient light & reflections
- Tank background is black, reflections are highly visible (My preference at serious aquarium photography is to be dressed in black - less reflections from the photographer - attention to black camera bag on left of white shirt - photo will be almost perfect less the fence and white shirt) dressed in black under 1pm hot sun ... must be screw loose ...

much easier to demo via illustration than words ..

Conclusion, key points for abnormal situations are highlighted in bold ... main cheese about common focus problems is taken care by CPL filter & AF-C so will not touch on it.

Subsequently, would suggest conducting 2 different types for photography sessions ... one catered for consumer cameras and another catered for DSLR cameras ...

believe more people can learn this way ...
