Hi guys, I have a question about air pump. please give advise.
I just wondering. If I am only using air pump for my sump tank for K1 media, am I still need to use another air pump in my main tank?
For example, I have a Eheim 400 air pump (6.5 L/min), I am going to keep 7 aro( each around 8 inch ) and 1 tiger and 1 Feifeng. please advise me, Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!! |

additional aeration supply is always nice to have.
in case of any accident that sump return pump breaks down, at least your main tank stays aerated if an independent air pump is present. I would recommend an air pump for the main tank just based on the high bioload you planned. The Eheim 400 is not a very strong air pump. My personal experience is that flow rate will be significantly reduced as water depth increases. I personally use a baby hiblow for my tank with 2ft depth.

I dont think there is a way to calculate the aeration requirement for fish tanks.
aeration requirement depends on bioload, feeding rate and filtration set up. Having an ORP meter or a DO probe might help to precisely measure the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water. but I feel it is should be fine to overkill a bit on the aeration.

It is always good to break water surface to promote gaseous exchange, e.g. bad gases escape and good ones incorporated. You can see fish will be more lively.
