I using RIO for quite some time and i faced the same issue. Never had this issue before using eheim pump. Other than this problem, everything works fine.

i have same issue for 2 of my RIO pump after 3 years, it is due to reversing stopper in the propeller is broken, without the stopper, the propeller will turn at wrong direction and no water pump out from it. according to shop, it is broken due to coral chip or any hard material stuck into the pump. it still working till pump is stop, once stopped, it can't be start again.

Price of the new spare part for complete propeller is damn expensive, almost equal to 2/3 of new pump end up buying new pump
