Rain Water for Fishkeeping?

Water price goin up.. simi also up.. now gettin very very poor.

Just wondering.. is our rain water OK for tank water change? Still need to add water conditioner?

Anyone here use rain water for WC? Share share leh...

Shd be safer to go thru filtration first b4 going into ur tank

I think if you collect directly from the sky type ok, but not like dripping down from your roof. maybe need go tru several carbon filtration ba. I got a guppy pond then i never do water change, everytime got rain seems ok. never really affect my waters.

Yes, this also applied to those open ponds in some pte residence. May not have much impact from rain.

if you stay in the ground floor is ok, when rain just put a few pails in a open space

I just got a Funnel with hose attached. There's a spot at the side of the planter tat's exposed, so shd b rain from the sky.

No idea how much I can collect yet, still in the beginning stages to water the plants.

But hor.. my plants cannot overwater also.. too much rain water for plants = cannot use WC water = no WC = VERY unhappy fishes.

My tank is placed at a courtyard where rain does fall in moderation n into the tank. The challenge is to keep e water level within the tank. Rainy season can be scary.

@eyescar , u can install a overflow pipe to help keep your water from overflowing..


As for using rain water for water changes , i am not entirely sure but i have had rain water fall into my FGT before , so far nothing happened except for PH drop. pls do update on your experiment on doing water change with rainwater , maybe dont try on your main tank first.

Rainwater is generally ok except during haze period. During haze period, the water is probably contaminated to the point of being acidic. Many bros here esp those with outdoor ponds noticed fish behaving odd during hazy months.

Suggest treating rainwater with baking soda to bring the KH up. Rainwater is inherently 0 KH/GH, and can result in pH swings when using it to change large quantities of water.

Guess if you buffer your tank system well rain water should be okay even when you got acid rain.
