Default Releasing Rotkeil at Bishan Park

Its CNY Day 2, I have decided to release Rotkeil to the wild. The waters at Bishan park has rised due to the past days of continuous rain.

Sharing some pics ,

Whether it's Xmas or CNY, it's never a good time to release captive fishes into another body of water. If you dumped that fish any where near the nature reserves, you'd be getting a earful from others as well.

Re-homing (be it sell or give away) to another hobbyist should always be the first choice.

I understand your concern. Predatory fish could be invasive to native species. Severum rotkeil is not predatory. Besides bishan park is man-made. The fishes found in are also released by park contractor. They allow children to catch fish ( published in news) when it was re-opened. But they dont allow anglers.

predation by introduced invasives is not the only reason we shouldnt release our pet fish. if i may ask, what made you decide to do this?

Bros,

The "river" in Bishan Park was a formerly canal. Most of the tilapias are not "natives". Our resevoirs even has geophagus atiflons and peacock bass popuplations (south america).

Fish released into man-made environment helps to create a new natural environment.

By the way, the only place where there could still be native species are in some remote streams deep in bukit timah or mandai.
