Haha, that was an interesting exercise of ID practice. Guess a lot more to learn. Thanks for sharing. For the ID on first fish, seen some thunder that looks like that. The pattern looks a bit unique.

I'm confused with the names

There's thunder and thunder goldline? Whats the difference?

There's a huge difference in price from what I've seen posted.

Same here. I just though they're two versions of the same common name, like how 'xingu' and 'platinum xingu' are the same fish.

imo, i dont know which was the post/thread/article that created the confusion, but in my opinion, thunder and thunder goldlines are the same. its goldline araguaia that's different. different denture, different head shape, difference in head slope and difference in body shape. the stripes/body markings are pretty different too.

I thought so too. Instead of these names, thought its better to refer to the river they comes from. Ie, Goldline refer to L27 araguaia. Thunder or thunder Goldline, refers to L27 tapajos or L27 teles pires and of course the other like L27 xingu or xingu platinum and L27 Tocantin. Think referring to them this way may be clearer.

Well I see vendors on this site asking a lot more for a fish called "goldline thunder" and the Tapajos is a lot cheaper at the same size.

I also remember one of the Japanese sites having " Golden thunder " and just " Thunder " there was a difference of around 12,000 yen similar size

These are pictures I saved of them they look different as well
GOLDEN THUNDER

THUNDER

This is why I'm confused lol

Thanks for sharing the pics. Was browsing some web on pics on thunder and for thunder they are generally from 2 river sources. Rio Teles pires and rio tapajos. And these 2 rivers are linked. Not sure if the difference river sources could contribute to the different looks. Or maybe these fishes are from same source, the fishermen then sort out the better looking ones and to differentiate the price give a better sounding name like Goldline thunder vs thunder. This is just my novice interpretation, haha. if it does not make sense please do not take any offense, haha...

Well, we're all in this journey of better understanding these beautiful fishes. Hopefully some experts can help shed some lights on this. Thanks.
