PH Level for newly setup Tank
Hi, I am new here, so trying to learn as much as possible from all the "ShiFu" here. I have just set up by new tank, actually was a used fish tank 6 x 2 x 2, have also top up the water 2 days ago with sump tank and air pump all running, after the 2nd days, I try to check the PH level, it stated 7.6, I would like to check -
1. whether this PH level was very common for 100% new fill up tank? 2. How many days should I maintain fishless before I put in my aros? 3. How many days for newly fill up tank to achieve the 7.0 required PH? Should I use PH down chemical or others method to bring down the PH level or to check a few more days then to check again? Sorry, for asking so many question. : |

no need waste money to buy pH down.
You pH will naturally go down when your BB colony is established. In the meantime, get some test kits to test ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Put in some feeders and BB in powder form or liquid. Then observe for a few weeks. Do not change water. You should get some readings for ammonia and nitrite. Once your ammonia is 0 , nitrite is 0 and nitrate shoot up, pH drop, then you can change the water and start considering putting in your arowana and add some coral chips to buffer the pH. |

Did you even put anything into the tank to start cycling?
Otherwise it's just filter media, water period. Like Gowling mentioned, put in some feeders. I'm not for powder or liquid BB but that's personal. Get water testing kits and check periodically. Full cycling takes weeks. |
