ADVISORY TO ALL PARTICIPANTS

Dear competition participants,

With only 1 week to go before the competition starts, here are some pointers to help you to prepare your fish for the competition:

1. Condition your fish by playing with it with your fingers (so that it will get used to human presence at comp venue); on your tank light for prolong period (for it to get used to the lighting of comp tank) and move it in and out of your tank (to let your fish get used to being moved to comp venue and shifting into new tank on bench-in day).

2. Trim the “hair” at the end of the fins so that the ends of the fins are in line with the end of the tail. Do it early and do not cut too drastically because the cuts should not be obvious to the judges.

3. Hang mirror or paste cut-out picture of a flowerhorn on your tank for short periods daily to encourage your fish to flare (remember to bring these 2 items to the competition venue during bench-in to help your fish recover from its journey there and let it settle in the tank faster).

4. Increase the frequency in feeding of fish (with moderate amount in each feed) to pump it up. Stop feeding completely 2 – 3 days before bench-in so that your fish won’t fill the comp tank with its excretion (imagine what impression your fish will give to the judges if its tank is full of shit). After the judging session, you will be allowed to feed your fish moderately but you should seek permission from the officials on duty first.

5. Monitor your fish’s health and increase frequency of water and filter wool changes. If you notice any minor sickness, apply appropriate medication immediately.

Remember this: Just like athletes in sports events, your fish needs to be trained in order for it to perform to its best during the competition.

Good luck and may the best fish wins.

Rules and Regulations during BENCHING-IN

Dear competition participants,

Thank you for taking part in our 11th National Flowerhorn Competition at Singapore Expo Hall 2B

Please present your fish(s) for benching-in on Thursday, 29 June 2018 between 4pm to 8pm (latecomer will not be allowed to bench in and will be disqualified, no refund will be given back) and observe the following procedure:

1. When you arrived at the competition venue, please proceed to the registration desk and present your identity card/passport for verification of your identity. The registration officer will then issue you with the bench-in and bench-out form.

2. If you are sending a proxy to bench-in your fish, you must provide that person with an authorization letter stating that he/she is benching in the fish(s) on your behalf. That person must present his/her identity card/passport at the registration desk during bench-in.

3. Participants must bring all the fishes together, then they are allowed to bench in. Example: If I entries for 6 fishes, I cannot bring 5 fishes and left 1 fish to bench in later timing. Must bring all 6 fishes, then allowed to bench in

4. During registration, you (or your proxy) will be asked to draw lots to determine which tank(s) your fish(s) will be placed in. If you have entered more than 1 fish in a class, you may decide on the tank position for each of your fishes after the drawing of lots eg. if you have 3 fishes in Class A and you draw tank number 1, 2 and 3, you can decide which of your 3 fishes go into tank 1, 2 and 3. Once the fishes have been placed into the tank, no changes will be entertained.

5. After the drawing of lots, hand your fish(s) to the bench-in officer who will place your fish(s) into the assigned tank(s) for you. You are not allowed to enter the competition arena at any time during the bench-in period.

6. Once the bench-in period is over, you may enter the competition arena and use your own mirror and/or toy fish to condition your fish(s) but all these objects must be removed before judging commences.

7. Strictly no medication, food or any additives are to be put into the tank at any time for the entire duration of the competition without the permission of the competition officers.

8. Anyone caught disobeying the above procedure or the competition rules and regulations will be disqualified and asked to leave the competition arena immediately.

9. Once the fishes are accepted and display at the competition venue, participants are not allowed to remove the fishes from the tanks unless prior approval is given by the organizer.

10. In the event if participants fishes is sick during any period of time in the Competition display tank, they are to seek approval from the organizer to remove the fishes.

11. Participants are not allowed to exchange other fishes in the event if their fishes are sick during the event. They are only allowed to remove the sick fishes prior approval from the organizer.

12. The organizers reserve the right to change the rules and regulations at any time without prior notification.

13. Any participants fail to comply any stated rules and regulations stated above will be disqualified from the competition and no refund will be given. And may face a permanent ban from future competition.

Thank you for your co-operation and we wish you the best of luck in this competition.
