Best substrate for shrimp tank
I've decided to start a shrimp tank.
Which substrate is the best for a shrimp tank. Where to get it, and cost. |

Welcome to shrimp keeping bro.
First of all, what type of shrimps are you looking to keep? Sulawesi Shrimps need high pH while the rest that are avaliable in the most LFS need slight lower pH. |

There is a huge library of information found in a STICKY on a STICKY. Would be good for you to go read up first
http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=273035 http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=329924 Care to share WHY ada soil? There is 3 common/popular brands, GEX, Magic and ADA. I am sure you have good reason why ADA is the most suitable. I understand that GEX is one of e most popular here. Heard a lfs swearing by Magic. Heard ADA is very effective in lowering pH. If anyone have the info or properties and benefits of all 3 soil, maybe we can have it in the sticky. Last edited by globalcookie; 26-11-2008 at 05:48 PM. |

ADA amazonia contains peat which makes the water acidic.
Thats why it is popular among some CRS breeders. Cheers Acit |

i have started a thread earlier on intended to compare all the soil side by side titled "GEX vs ADA"
maybe if we were to start a discussion for soil can continue here http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=345622 purpose is to gather the feedback of the pple who uses different soil and see the pros and cons of each. There are really quite a few types, GEX red, green, ADA I, ADA II, etc, unlikely a person will be able to have tried every single type. There seem to be frequent discussion in threads regarding soil but none that compare them side by side. |

thanks for all the information.
I'm thinking of keeping about 20 RCS in a 2feet tank. but thought of using GEX ( RED ) as they claim to "break down" slower compare to ADA. even if i buy today, i still have to mature the water condition before introducing the shrimp. Can't wait . . . . |
