why is it people say red gravel is better to bring out the colors of bichirs? any reason? i am torn between red or black....... which would be better? i have mostly lower jaws.

Red is good for endies.. Black good for mokes, retros n some variants of laps to bring out the greenish look.

I believe red brings out better contrast. I wonder if having a black base with some red gravel that doesn't totally cover the bottom would get the best of both worlds.

Ohh.. So how many bars should there be on a Tikinso? Btw, bro BeTtA_GeNe guessed correctly. The remaining piece of Tikinso had minimal bars and the bars were more of stripes compared to bars. I really love the volta and chose it because of the broadness of the head.
