Bai Du is generally eaten for its roe and sweet meat during CNY by the teochews initially...Supposed to symbolise nian nian you yu....Supposed to bring the person luck who consume it.

I think this kind of fish ideally is to kept in a pond, if not later it restricts itself and end up become short bodies
