A sting pierced through a male ray

Hi all, I've a 18" male ray who was just injured by the female ray during mating process. The sting from the female pierce through the top of the male ray. Currently, 1/3 of the sting is coming out from the bottom while the other 2/3 is on top of the male ray. Should I by brute force pull it out or will it dislodge by itself? Pls advise thanks.

Oh my! I can't help much, but yes you should consulte the vet or check online, I'm sorry to hear that happen. Hopefully he'll be alright !!

Ray Guru/Doctor Dennis (ap99) has done it before .... sms n consult him.

Wonder wearing "condom" for female rays helps to prevent this? ie putting PVC pipe on stinger

I just pulled mine with a plier. No harm done on my ray. Pull in the direction of the sting not the otherway around.

Here are pictures the ray before and after. The stinger I pulled out was about 3" long

With the stinger protruding

See the big hole after. The Pearl was eating happily afterwards

Thanks bro for the pic. For mine, it is the other direction, I'm worried if i pull out from the top it will going against the flow of the blade causing more damage. =(

i think hv to pull out eventually,i dont think the sting can dislodge by itself since is pierce through.
however be prepare that your case if going against the sharp spike,the outcome(wound) can be quite nasty.but i am sure the male can recover providing your water parameter is good.

Not sure where the stinger is lodged. Problem is if it's near a vital organ or vein the jaggered edges could be lethal. If it's at the disc edge, go ahead and pull it out, but towards the centre, maybe vetduck or any vet that treats rays.
