I wish Ornates kept their juvi looks though!
I wish that will happen too.

But the story of this batch was very interesting and can easily mislead new hobbyists.

When I arrived at the shop few days after the stocks arrived for my usual weekly supplies, the boss asked me what variant are these ornates. I told him ornates have no variant and these are juvenile colors. He was told that the markings will stay till the fish is big and the supplier claimed he have big ones (over 12") that looked the same.

Just when I decided to have some fun and ask for a big one ~2 weeks later, I was told they were sold and the big ones do look "slightly different" and new stocks will only have small ones.

I asked for the so called bigger piece immediately, same story as yours. Claimed that all were sold on the supplier side.

Definitely the patterns will fade off as these are just juveniles. But the interesting fact of this batch is that only 1 or 2 are pure black and white. The rest are more or less yellow and black. I am keeping not in hopes that the pattern will stay, rather than to see whether the white will retain or become yellowish in the long run.

Senegal bro.
But not keeping it's snow white colour.
Hopefully doesn't turn out to be a white tank treated normal piece.

The supplier's story manage to con those who don't know about all these. Supplier's words are always very important to most LFS.

Chances of remaining white is very low. At least that's what I know about ornates.

I will try to keep a regular update on the ornate.
Hopefully can capture how it's color and pattern morph as it grows.
